Pictures of Chocolate & Junk

Vik Muniz (born Vicente Jose Muniz, 1961) is a one of a kind visual artist. .
His trademark today is a unique style of creating drawings out of different non-art materials, which he photographs upon completion and exhibits as photos. Regardless of the odd-ball materials (such as cotton, wire, chocolate, sugar, dust caviar, diamonds and paper…) Mr. Muniz uses, his work is always of the highest artistic impact and value. And because of these materials, he is undoubtedly a re-inventor of beauty in art. His work is a testimonial of how, with an artist’s sensibility, one can break the boundaries, transcend limitations of any specific art form and be highly acclaimed for it.
Vik Muniz is best known for his Pictures of Chocolate and Pictures of Junk – where he used Bosco Chocolate Syrup and objects from one of the world’s largest garbage dump to create renderings of the Mona Lisa, Sigmund Freud and Medusa, to name a few. He often used works of other great artists, such as Da Vinci, Warhol or Monet, to serve as a base for his own. Recently, his work is getting to be ever larger in scale and the list of materials and techniques keeps getting longer and longer
